In Scotland a Makar is a poet or a bard, a maker of poetry. Used at first to refer to court poets of the fifteenth and sixteenth century, it's meaning has since widened and it is now a general term for makers of poetry.
The Machars is a peninsula in what was Wigtownshire and is now part of Dumfries and Galloway. It reaches into the Solway Firth. It is mostly green, rolling countryside blessed with a gentle climate. It is deep in the southwest of Scotland.
This is an anthology of recent poems by members of the Unit 3 Poetry Group.
