Galloway tales pertaining to quests, bogles, sprites, romantic and dolorous incidents, death, curses, wizards, the Holy Grail, public houses, Merlin, and sundry incidents based in truth or utter deranged fantasy, all in the fabled realm of Galloway. Galloway, the perennial land of 'No', no independence, no national park, no radical politics, was once an independent, autonomous state with a small mercantile Empire and a foreign policy independent of Scotland's. In Curious Histories & Questionable Tales, the Galloway that was meets the Galloway that might have been, and the Galloway that never was. Hugh McMillan, who has always found the distinction between fact and fiction problematic, takes six Galloway tales and gives them a contemporary spin.
